The first documented attempts date back to 1879.

However, it was from the 1940s that systematic research in this field developed and the production processes still in use today were perfected:
– HPHT, where the carbon particle is subjected to high temperature and high pressure
– CVD, which uses chemical vapor deposition to create diamonds from a gas mixture.

In 1954, the first commercial success was achieved in the USA. Scientist Tracy Hall, using a press of his own invention, managed to synthesize the first diamond with a reliable and verified method.
However, the stones produced were too small in size (the largest measuring 0.15 mm in diameter) and had too many imperfections to be used in jewelry.

Evolved Diamonds

Almost 100 years after those first experiments, production techniques have evolved and continue to improve, now allowing the production of stones that are identical in every way to natural ones but with some advantages.

First, laboratory-created diamonds are available in a wider range of sizes and qualities. The rapid evolution of technology allows for the production of increasingly larger and more beautiful stones.
However, for the same size and quality, the prices of lab grown diamonds are significantly lower than natural ones.

These price differences and their artificial origin lead many people to believe that laboratory-created diamonds are imitations of natural precious stones.
However, lab grown diamonds are genuine diamonds (with the same chemical composition and physical characteristics as natural ones) and are certified as such by the world’s leading gemological institutes (IGI and GIA).

Beyond the economic advantages and aesthetic qualities, lab grown diamonds possess ethical virtues that natural ones cannot claim. The production of laboratory diamonds avoids social conflicts, human rights violations, and environmental damage resulting from mining and exploitation.

Lab grown diamonds are therefore the answer for those seeking an ethical and economical solution without compromising on the beauty and qualities of a real diamond.

In the world of jewelry and precious stones, lab grown diamonds have been a topic of discussion for some time, and recently, major global jewelry brands (De Beers, Swarovski, Tiffany & Co.) have launched their first collections dedicated to these futuristic stones.
